Who we are

Of Coast + Stars is a community project by Suffolk photographer Alexander Ward, often working in collaboration with other artists, curators and organisations. Regardless of who’s involved in any one iteration of the project, the collective work to the same charter and uphold the same principles. 

What we do 

The project is established to showcase the talent of photographic artists who primarily reside in East Anglia (which we regard as Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk), with a focus on emerging talent. Working together, we will help to drive awareness of the region’s talent along with individual artists and collectives work and, where possible, connect them to opportunities to grow and develop. Our ultimate aim is to build a community that supports and empowers one another. 

What we believe

• Every artist has value and deserves a voice and safe space to explore their work 

• Communities are seeded and grown by mutual support and empowerment 

• Every space we create is safe for people regardless of their gender, ethnicity, disability, sexuality or socio-economic background 

• Art should be accessible to everyone 

• An artist’s finances should not dictate the opportunity to increase visibility of their work

Our Pledge

• We will always make choices with the aim of enriching a community and the people within it, and ensuring any space we create is safeguarded from hate 

• We will always give more space to championing emerging artists over well-established artists because we believe we should lift one another up

• Your data will never be shared with another party without your express permission 

• We will give everyone the respect deserved when we engage with them and their work
